The flora of the Isleta El Hicacal of the Ciénaga de La Palmita Wildlife Reserve and Bird Island of Zulia State was determined. The investigation was carried out through five samples during the period 2007-2008, the delimitation of two plots of 400 m2 and two of 1000 m2, field explorations and the co- llection of botanical samples that underwent the classic process of herbalization. Taxonomic deter- mination was made through specialized literature, confrontation with herbarium samples and consul- tation with specialist taxonomists. The Hicacal islet was a xerophyte enclave that, in general, is com- posed of xerophilous, spiny and semideciduous communities. The inventory revealed 140 species grouped into 50 families, of which seven concen- trated 70 species: Poaceae (18), Mimosaceae (13), Euphorbiaceae (11), Fabaceae (10), Cactaceae (7), Malvaceae (6) and Bromeliaceae( 5), represented 50% of the total of the determined spaces. The flo- ra of thexerophytic enclave presented various life habits: 36 trees, 31 shrubs, 57 herbs, 4 climbers, 3 epiphytes, 3 hemiparasites, 3 fruits, 2 lianas and 1 stipe. Gouiniaaff. virgata (Poaceae) as the first register of the genus for the Zulia state and of the species for Venezuela. The xerophyte enclave was defined as anarbustal with good structural confor- mation, which is related to its physical geographical isolation of human intervention. It is recommended to keep this phytogeographic area in good condition, given the great importance it has for educational, recreational purposes and for scientific research.
